Mellifica BE

Mellifica BE works for the conservation and redevelopment of the black bee in Wallonia. The headquarters are located at the Maison de l’Abeille Noire located within the Aquascope Virelles nature interpretation centre (Chimay). This region is a protected area of 300 km² for the Chimay/Valenciennes population of the black bee, established by the municipalities of Chimay and Momignies.

The Association supports beekeepers through a range of training courses and various services (fertilization station, distribution of larvae, insemination, online sales platform, etc.). The Mellifica BE team also offers its expertise to respond to specific requests in favour of Apis mellifera melliferaMellifica BE also works to raise awareness and involve the general public. There are multiple communication channels: local events, discovery activities at the apiary, popular articles, organic fairs, etc.

The wild or feral colonies of A.m.m are also studied in the protected area and its bordering territories. The objective is also to redevelop their forest population.
All Mellifica BE actions are made possible thanks to the financial support of Wallonia and the European Union and the actions of a team of passionate volunteers. Two employees ensure the coordination of the Association activities.
Mellifica BE establishes partnerships in favour of the black bee through a network of actors from the beekeeping, political and environmental world.
